Annual weekend with our besties

Ever since our children were very little, we’ve tried to do an annual weekend away with our good friends who have children born the same week as Julian. We camped for the first 3 years, but the last two times we’ve gone easy on ourselves and rented a cabin. This year David found a beautiful house in Neskowin which was the perfect size for all of us.

These two could be twins separated at birth, and they are bonded more than ever now that they are in the same school this year!

There was so much yummy food on this trip:

The kids had such a good time hanging out together playing board games and cards and reading books. We never got a photo of their favorite activity, though- building a gigantic fort out of couch pillows under the stairwell:

We went on one of our favorite hikes- up Cascade Head. The weather was perfect all weekend and the view was beautiful. And even though we did a lot of climbing and packed about 1/4 the amount of water we actually needed, the kids were total troopers.

We also had a beautiful day in Pacific City, looking at tide pools and climbing up the dunes.

The kids LOVED spending the whole weekend together. They were so sweet to Nutmeg too, and really made her feel like part of the group. The grown ups had a lot of fun together, too. We stayed up late playing ‘cards against humanity’ and laughing at inappropriate humor. And we even saw a whale spouting it’s way up the coast line outside our dining room window! That is something I’ve been wanting to see the whole time I’ve lived in Oregon and never have until this weekend! I can’t think of anything I like doing more than hanging out with good friends in a beautiful place. We’re already looking forward to next year’s trip.
